Payoneer vs Wise for freelancers

The provider’s price list is only half of it. Which platform you sell on decides whether you can use Wise at all, what the platform charges to send the money, and what the provider charges to receive it. Here is the full path, platform → provider → your bank, with fees checked 14 Oct 2026.

Worked examples: $200, $1,000 and $5,000

Each platform’s cheapest published route to each provider, converted at the provider’s lowest published rate (Payoneer 1.2%, Wise 0.52%). Fees that aren’t published (Upwork’s Payoneer fee, a marketplace receiving fee at Payoneer) count as $0, so the Payoneer figures are upper bounds.

Fiverr and Freelancer.com have no Wise option: their Wise figures assume a USD wire to your Wise USD account details, which none of Fiverr, Freelancer.com or Wise confirms is accepted.

The pattern: Wise converts for less, Payoneer has the lower fixed fees. So Payoneer wins on small withdrawals and Wise on large ones, and the switch-over depends on the platform. From Upwork, Direct to U.S. Bank’s $2.99 is the only fixed cost, so Wise pulls ahead from about $437.42. From Fiverr and Freelancer.com the money has to arrive as a wire: Wise’s $6.11 wire fee moves the switch-over to about $604.27 from Fiverr, and Freelancer.com’s own $25.00 wire fee to about $4,405.92. If your currency costs more than 0.52% at Wise or more than 1.2% at Payoneer, enter the real rates above: the switch-over moves.
